Digital Inclusion in the Information Society

10. september 2026, Maribor

Today, the digital space no longer represents merely a supplement to everyday life, but rather its fundamental infrastructural environment. Digital technologies increasingly permeate key social subsystems — from education, work, and public services to healthcare, culture, and social communication. In this context, digital connectivity is gradually evolving beyond the framework of technological possibilities and becoming an important prerequisite for full social participation. Consequently, the issue of digital inclusion extends beyond the technical dimensions of information and communication technology development and opens broader discussions on accessibility, equity, and equal opportunities within the digital society.

The DIGIN 2026 workshop continues the discussion of these challenges with an emphasis on understanding digital transformation as a complex socio-technological process. In a time of rapid development of artificial intelligence, automated systems, and advanced digital services, a key question is how to ensure that digital innovations are designed and developed in ways that take into account the diversity of users and prevent the emergence of new forms of digital exclusion.

Special attention is devoted to exploring approaches to inclusive design, the accessibility of digital services, the role of assistive technologies, and the broader social, ethical, and pedagogical dimensions of digitalization. Such an approach requires interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers, educators, technology developers, policymakers, and other stakeholders whose expertise contributes to the development of a more accessible and inclusive digital environment.

The DIGIN 2026 workshop thus represents a space for the exchange of research findings, the presentation of good practices, and discussions on the future directions of digital inclusion. By connecting diverse perspectives, we aim to contribute to a better understanding of how digital technologies can not only accelerate innovation, but also support the equal participation of all individuals in the digital society.
